Dat Logos niet stil kan zitten, weten we reeds langer dan vandaag. Ook deze maand gaan we weer geestdriftig op pad:

Op woensdag 7 juni viert de Hogeschool Gent haar vijfjarig bestaan met een Dies Natalis en nodigde ook Logos uit.
Het -nog voorlopige- programma ziet er momenteel als volgt uit:

Op 11 juni, indien het allemaal wat meer meezit dan in mei jl. (toen moest Prinses Astrid zonodig een speechke komen houden en konden wij dus niet optreden), is Logos opnieuw te horen en te zien op de Chantoir van Thierry De Cordier op het St.-Baafsplein te Gent tussen 15 en 17u. O.a. op het programma: "Dynamo" van Godfried-Willem Raes, uitgevoerd door Leonaar De Graeve. Ja, juist, dat is het stuk voor elektrische gitaar, waarbij de muzikant zelf via een loopfiets voor zijn stroom moet zorgen. Het lot van hedendaags musicus is niet altijd even eenvoudig als men denkt… Ook eufoniumspeler Bruno De Busschere zal van de partij zijn en Moniek Darge geeft een improvisatie weg op elektrische viool. Gelukkig werkt die op batterijtjes en hoeft de loopfiets hier niet te worden ingezet. Ook Godfried-Willem zorgt nog voor enkele muzikale verrassingen diezelfde namiddag.

Op zaterdag 24 juni trekken we met Champ d'Action naar de Vondelkerk in Amsterdam, alwaar het liefst 8 uur durende kwartet van Dick Raaijmaekers integraal zal worden uitgevoerd in het kader van het Holland Festival.

Op zondag 25 juni tussen 15 en 17u musiceren Tomma Wessel, Brent Wetters en Kristof Lauwers in de Chantoir op het Sint-Baafsplein. Op het programma staat o.m. Lickstick van Godfried-Willem Raes.

Op donderdagavond 29 juni gaat er in het spiksplinternieuwe Instrumentenmuseum te Brussel een panel door rond het gebruik van Theremins en ook Godfried-Willem Raes is hierop uitgenodigd. Tevens worden er een aantal historische Theremins tentoon gesteld.

Op vrijdagavond 30 juni kunt u dan ter afsluiting van een bezige bijmaand, in het kader van hetzelfde gebeuren, de Theremin Convention, een uitvoering horen op dit toch wel heel bijzondere instrument. Het Logos Ensemble zal verschillende Theremins inzetten bij het sonoriseren van de film Aelita. Deze unieke gebeurtenis gaat door in het Filmmuseum, net om de hoek van het nieuwe Instrumentenmuseum te Brussel. Dit alles op een boogscheut van het Centraal Station, zodat u makkelijk met het openbaar vervoer heen en terug kunt en dit geen hinderpaal hoeft te zijn om deze boeiende aktiviteit te missen.

Presentation by Dr. Albert Glinsky, author of the forthcoming book on Leon Theremin "Ether Music and Espionage". Dr. Glinsky will be presenting the life of this remarkable Russian inventor with particular focus on the thereminvox, using slides and recordings (some of them quite rare).

Lecture by Dr. Rosalyn Tureck, living legend who has performed with Mr.Theremin in the 1930's.

Concert by Fay Lovsky and group. Apart from her own songs, she will be performing on theremin in the Bohuslav Martinu piece "Fantasy" for theremin solo, oboe, string quartet and piano (featuring Jan Maebe on oboe, Bart Meynckens on piano and the Tientos string quartet). This piece is probably performed for the first time in Belgium, in any case on the theremin (the instrument for which it was originally written).

Friday 30 June
at the Filmmuseum/Musée du Cinéma

8.15 pm
Live accompaniment by Logos Foundation of the Russian silent movie "Aelita" (Jakov Protazanov, USSR, 1924). A Russian scientist and his assistant lead a communist revolution on Mars. Sounds from the theremin and electro-acoustical instruments create the right atmosphere.

Projection of "An electronic odyssey", a documentary film on theremin by Steven Martin (USA, 1993)

Concert by the David Simons Group (USA) (David Simons, theremin; Lisa Karrer, voice; Bob Hoffnar, pedal steel guitar; Stephanie Griffin, viola). The theremin and other instruments are used as a MIDI-trigger.

On Thursday 29 June and Saturday 1 July, a small temporary exhibition of historical theremins and documents is presented in the concert hall.

Guided tours focusing especially on the theremin and other related twentieth century instruments are being organised on demand by the MIM educational department.

Tuesday 11 and Wednesday 12 July
at the MIM

Theremin workshop. Know-how is provided by Logos Foundation. After receiving some historical background, participants can build and play a (type of) theremin themselves, which they can purchase afterwards if they want. We can allow only 15 participants, so hurry up and call us !
