'O.G.'
Godfried-Willem Raes

This piece was composed as a contribution to the M&M concert devoted to glitches. It makes use of parametric controlled random distributions as known from stochastics. The parametric controls can either be handled from the master laptop controlling the entire robot orchestra or be steered by gesture input from our sonar based invisible instrument. In the latter case, -as for all our gesture controlled compositions- the performer should be naked. The composition is fully embedded in its software. Performers have to work out a version given the parametric controls passed to the user/performer.

The piece fully exploits the extreme limits of the robots making up our M&M orchestra: Notes so short that they either can barely be perceived or surpassing the mechanical margins of the robots moving parts. Clicks and switch sounds, motor noises and, last but not least glitches caused by software failures due to the extreme speed at which we send commands through the midi bottleneck.

The piece is algorithmic and interactive at the same time. It was written in my 'GMT' language, a superset of Basic.

'O.G.' was premiered on 24th of april 2008 by the author.
