Muziekdozen vertellen een poetisch audio-visueel verhaal, gebouwd met stille klanken, subtiele lichtreflekties en een vleugje bevrijdende kitsch als ironische noot. Als kind was ik al gefacineerd door muziekdozen. In Parijs, vlakbij Beaubourg, bezocht ik eens een indrukwekkende priveverzameling muziekdozen, en van toen af leek muziek maken me nog boeiender dan tevoren. Op rommelmarkten kijk ik altijd uit naar interessante dozen en onderdelen en probeer me al voor te stellen hoe ze zullen klinken. Eens een keuze gemaakt, begin ik te werken aan de visuele vormgeving. Traag maar zeker vullen mijn oren zich met de geluiden.
Zowel het maken van soundscapes als van alternatieve muziekdozen is voor mij een fascinerend rondreizen in een nieuw audio-visueel universum.
These alternative music boxes are telling a poetical audio-visual story, with tiny
sounds, subtile light reflexions and a little liberating kitsch or humour as ingredients. From childhood on music boxes were fascinating me. Once I visited a small family museum at the back of Beaubourg in Paris, to discover the most fabulous collection I've ever seen or heard. From that day on music making' became even more exciting: I visit flea markets, looking for the most appealing, still silent, box and listening to the sounds in my head. What kind of sound will I decide to escape from what kind of box? Once a box is choosen I start working on the visuals. Little by little my ears become pregnant of the most appropriated sounds.
Soundscaping as well as building alternative music boxes are adventureous travels into the audio-visual world. The vast universe of audio art is there to be explored.
Ces boîtes à musique alternatives racontent une histoire audio-visuelle poétique, avec des sons tenus, des réflexions de lumière subtiles et un peu de kitsch libérateur ou un peu d'humour comme ingrédients. Les boîtes à musique me fascinent depuis ma jeunesse. C'est à Paris, non loin de Beaubourg, que j'ai visitée la plus impressionnante collection particulière de boîtes à musique. A partir de ce moment, faire de la musique me semblait plus excitant encore. Au marché au puces je cherchais des pièces détachées me paraissant aptes pour en faire une boîte à musique. Bien qu'elles soient muettes, je m'imaginais déjà les sons qu'elle pouvaient produire. Une fois que j'avais décidé, je commençais le travail visuel. Au fur et à mesure, mes oreilles se remplissaient des son les plus appropriés.
Faire des sculptures sonores et construire des boîtes à musique alternatives sont des voyages d'aventure dans le monde de l'audio-visuel. Le vaste univers de l'art auditif est là pour être découvert.

Foto's van de lezende mens, architectuur en de werking van het licht worden getoond in een nieuwe constellatie. Een uitnodiging om te ontcijferen en te beleven. website Moniek Darge (Brugge, 1952) toont een staalkaart van haar uitgebreide verzameling zelfgebouwde muziekdozen.
