dr.Godfried-Willem Raes (1952) is an internationaly outstanding music-maker in the broadest sense of the word. Up to 2014 he was a professor of composition and acoustics at the Ghent School of Arts. Nowadays he is mostly charged with post-doctoral research into extending expressive possibilities of acoustic instruments and their human interfaces. He is the designer of what got to be known as the largest robot orchestra in the world and the inventor of a fully wireless expressive gesture recognition system (the invisible instrument). At this moment he is working on the refinement of  automated musical instruments with playing possibilities that by far exceed anything possible by humans. He was awarded the Louis Paul Boon prize (1982) as well as the Tech-Art Prize (1990). He is the founder and director of the Logos Foundation.




dr.Godfried-Willem Raes (1952) geniet een wereldwijde bekendheid als muziekmaker in de breedste zin van het woord. Tot 2014 was hij hoofddocent kompositie en akoestiek, thans 
post-doktoraal onderzoeker aan Ugent. Zijn onderzoek behelst de uitbreiding van de expressieve 
mogelijkheden van muzikale speeltuigen en hun menselijke interfaces. Hij is bouwer 
en ontwerper van wat als het grootste robot orkest ter wereld mag worden beschouwd 
en uitvinder van een volkomen draadloos systeem voor de herkenning van menselijke 
expressieve gestiek, zijn onzichtbaar instrument. Dit was ook het onderwerp van 
zijn doktoraat. Op dit ogenblik werkt hij aan bouw en ontwikkeling van automatische 
instrumenten, met speelmogelijkheden die het menselijke ver overschrijden. Hij werd 
bekroond met de Louis Paul Boon prijs (1982) en met de Tech-Art prijs (1990). Hij is oprichter en direkteur van Stichting Logos.
